Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
Numbers, 21:8 The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.”
Moses lifted up the snake on a pole, and anyone who was bitten and looked at the bronze snake lived. There was faith involved here. They must believe that what God told Moses was true ,and lift their eyes up from the poisonous snakes all around them in order to be healed. Jesus was lifted up on a pole of sorts, the cross. When we lift our eyes to the cross and believe that the sacrifie made there is for the payment of our sins, we repent, and are healed. This takes faith as well. To lift our eyes from the sin of this world, the lusts of the flesh that are so common to man and old friends who don’t want us to be new, this comes by faith. True to His Word, we lift our eyes to Jesus, experience His salvation and live.
